Sue's Bday - 39 and holding

Sunday was Sue's birthday. She is still looking young! We had Nate, Jen and Kate (Jarrod of course) for dinner. It's be great having Nathan's family for the summer. It will be sad and quiet when they go to Logan for his Master's program in August.

Her present was clothes and a new TV. The old one died. Unfortunately, the new one isn't the same size as the old. We will need to build around it.

Katelynn helped with the candles.
Those that know us know Rick can't buy anything for Sue that doesn't get returned or exchanged. This year he had a strategy. He asked her daily walking companion for buy something for her and he'd pay her back. Bingo!! Sue loved the clothes. It only took 26 years to figure out a plan!!
Isn't she CUTE!

Sue LOVES kids, especially grandkids!!!

4th of July

On the 4th of July, we started the day with the traditional ward pancake breakfast. Of course the pancakes but with strawberries, whip cream and/or syrup, sausage and OJ. Good way the start the day!

The breakfast is next to a baseball field. So a friendly game of baseball followed. Fun for all.

Nate, Jen and Kate came by after their ward's breakfast.

At 1pm, the neighbor started the annual parade. This is lead be a decorated car, with patriotic music blearing , followed by kids dressed and on decorated bikes and tricycles. We did the judging. Sue made us T-shirts with an iron-on decal of the parade for the winners. The drum major is carrying a broom with an plunger attached. :)

After the parade, we went to Jen's parents house for a BBQ. From there, we watched the Tustin High School fireworks from the San Juan Chapel parking lot.

In all, a nice day.

FHE with Sonksen & Harpers

One of the missionaries serving in our ward has a similar look as Jarrod. This photo doesn't do the similarity justice.
The kids played games.

The adults just ate and talked around the fire.

June wrap-up

We weren't very good at updating our blog site in June so this will combine the events of the month.

In preparation for the Stake Girl's Camp in July, Sue took some of the girl's camping. It was interesting to see the difference between the ways boys camp and girls.

Father's Day brought clothes and a new Ham radio. It was a nice day. It's been great having Nathan's family here for the summer. It's going to be hard to see them leave in August.

Jarrod got his hair cut!! It's different than he has had in the past, but it will feel better over the hot summer months - especially backpacking at Mammoth in July.

The haircut proved to be beneficial on the Stake Pioneer Trek. It was a record breaking hot day. We will post a separate posting on the Trek - later.

Jarrod started his Eagle Project in June. He is building 8 bookshelves for a local elementary school.

Jarrod went to the beach recently. He "supposedly" applied sunscreen. Lesson's learned: reapply regularly and use a higher SPF.

Katelynn 2 year Bday

Katelynn had her 2 year old birthday party. Nathan's blog has other photos and info. They did a pinata....

...but Kate did really get the concept.

Grabbing candy was a concept they did get!!

She REALLY liked the Tootsie Pop sucker!! It was hard to get her to open presents from it. Plus Grandma Mandy (that's Sue, long story for another time) kinda went crazy with presents - like lots!! It's the first grandchildren syndrome.
Jen did a great job on making the cake.

Jarrod playing tennis

Had to put in this close-up of Katelynn's eye. Isn't she cute?

Jarrod played in a tennis tournament. He lost but did well. He has a powerful defense.

Palm Springs

Jennifer's family has an annual vacation to Palm Springs. They invited us to join them for a day. It was fun. We relaxed in the pool and went to lunch. The grass photos were near a hotel near the swan pond.
